A Second Korean Hostage is Killed

Filed under: Korea — Jeff in Korea at 3:45 pm on Tuesday, July 31, 2007

Korea confirmed Today (July 31) a second Korean hostage has been killed in Afghanistan, denouncing Taliban militants for committing the “barbarity.”

“One of our citizens kidnapped in Afghanistan, Shim Sung-min, was confirmed on July 31 to have been killed,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Cho Hee-yong said in a press briefing.

The official confirmation came over 12 hours after a Taliban spokesman said the militants had shot and killed a male hostage because the Afghan government failed to trade the hostages for Taliban prisoners.

“The government cannot hide its anger and strongly denounces the Taliban militants for brutally murdering (Shim) while our government was doing its best and working closely with the Afghan government to win the safe release of our citizens,” the Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

The bullet-riddled body of Shim was found on a road near the city of Ghazni, where 23 Korean aid workers were kidnapped on July 19, according to reports.

The 42-year-old leader of the group, Presbyterian pastor Bae Hyung-kyu, was shot dead last Wednesday after Kabul refused to release jailed Taliban fighters.

Shim, a native of Goseong in South Gyeongsang Province, had worked at an IT company in Seoul but recently moved to Seongnam, just south of the capital, where he said he wanted to do volunteer work while attending graduate school.

The 30-year-old was remembered by his family as a very dutiful son, while his friends said Shim was always the first in line to offer help to anyone less fortunate, especially the disabled.

The Taliban are demanding they release prisoners or the hostages will be killed. The Afghan government needs to round up said prisoners, get the cameras ready and for every hostage the Taliban kill, they need to kill these prisoners and them dump their bodies for the Taliban to recover. “Here, you can have your prisoners.”

An eye for an eye.

The negotiators are negotiating the wrong way. If i were them, i’ll take the list of those prisoners demanded for release. One more hostage killed, i’ll order the immediate execution of two Taliban prisoners. That way, i keep the jail cells clean and with good reason for executing people who don’t even deserve to live.

2 worthless lives for one precious soul….

I feel sorry for the families and the captors- But now is a good time for the church to ask - “Where the F*ck is G*D!”
These poor bastards go in to do good in the name of who- G*D.
The Taliban kills Christians because they are infidels, according to who- G*D.
What a F*cked up mess - caused by what? G*D - exactly.
Be logical people - all religion creates is sheep and the wolves that kill them.
Help the poor- fine- but bring a machine gun when you do- not a Bible.

Second innocent Korean hostage was killed! shame on the killers, who are very coward and act just like animals, and shame on everyone that hold responsibility on this event, but just stay idly without doing anything to rescue them, specially the South Korean government. Let do something, Mr. President of South Korea, you could ask the kidnapers to release your citizens immediately, if not you would send in 200,000 strong Korean force to swip them out off mankind’s mind
Let declare war on them Mr. President

The idea of executing a taliban prisoner for one of ours killed is a good idea, but I have an even better one.
Every time a Islamist hurts or kills anyone and I mean anyone, we level one of their temples or schools !
We should recognize that if somone uses religion as part of their strength we should target that as well as them.
Religion after all is just an idea with nothing substantial backing it up but guns and bombs.

Hey Tom and Pohll - right on! My thoughts exactly. No need to play helpless with these thugs when we have the exact leverage they have….except they have our innocent souls and we have murderers - a 2 for 1 sounds like the way to go. When will these Dems figure out these Islamo fascists have a life long mission - to end our civilized way of life. Let’s end their way of life now and over there…not here!

I’d like to see a South Korean special forces unit enter the said province and take retribution without regard for political consideration, do it cause it’s the right thing to do.

I have to say, both political parties have this war wrong. The dems want to retreat and the repub’s are deployed but won’t prosecute the war. No way anyone is going to win the hearts of these animals.

Two prisoners killed for every hostage. Then 3 and then 4. The ferret out every possible Taliban leader or follower and arrest them. Then encourage the South Korean government to send at least 10,000 troops into Afgahnistan to track down the insurgents.

To save all people from all nations from treats like these by the Taliban for the release of prisoners. All nations should adopt The kill the prisoner responce. When ever a person is taken hostage and the hostage takers demand a prisonner release that prisonner should excuted in public. It would take maybe years or never, but life 4 life would at least make some of the smarter ones rethink taking hostages No one should ever pay the price of hostage taker it would only encourge more. What ever the hostage takers want should be removed the day they request it without a moments thought by all governments of the world. Then there woukd be nothing to ever gain by taking hostages. My hope and best wishes to all the family of these 23 hostages, forgiven the weakness of governments to destory these animals and take away their desires.

Martin 2 the point

Since the Korean Govt, can’t save their hostages,
…………………………………..
As the poem goes:-
We also who volunteered for my country, as a person feel lonely when I think of my hometown

When I hear the exploits of my brother eagles, I want to go quickly to the skies of battle

Even with the wished-for seven buttons on my uniform, I am thinking of my mother

Eager to return home again after leaving, a half year ago

Over there tea fields one after another, wanting to show my mother Fuji’s peak

My life dedicated to the Emperor, a young cherry blossom facing the storm

My mother sends a letter with a pressed cherry blossom encouraging me to come back home

Dividing my only life between loyalty and filial piety, I will leave the nest for the south sea skies

A clear moonlit night unchanging, but people’s circumstances change based on events

Flying through the blue sky searching for the enemy, seeing below the shape of Mt. Fuji

After enduring hardships, transformed into a cherry blossom with beautiful color and smell

We doing for what human should do, but our faith had come, we go in no fear….

American soldiers proud to their country, doing the right thing to clean all chicken taliban.
American had drop the atomic bom during 1945 WW2,
NOW its time to drop another one to Afghanistan and
eliminates all taliban crooks outhere, let them feel another new world of nuclear invasion.
THIS TIME THEIR FLESH JUST NOT VANISH!! THEY EXTINCT IMMEDIATELY!

republican, democrat, all the same. Everyone seems to forget that Clinton tried to go to war with Iraq for the same damn reasons that Bush laid out and that he had his wife and albright stumping the issue for him. If it wasn’t for cigar-gate he would have had his way. So please, stop the partisan bullshit, your favorite politician is just as much of a scum bag as the next guy.

But on to the topic at hand… these sons of pigs are throwbacks from the bronze age. They’re self stunted mental abilities aren’t able to fathom concepts other than brutality and violence and all these attempts to talk to them and appease them will only breed more violence. Frankly, I think anyone trying to deal with these savages as people are fools and unfortunately, they’re paying the price for their optimism. There’s only one way to deal with a rabid wild animal: put them down.
