Hello Ena,

I know you had good intentions in writing your comment, but you have expressed a line of thinking that foreigners that do understand Korean find frustrating. By that I mean the immediate assumption that the foreigner is mistaken because he cannot understand Korean, or cannot understand Korean culture. I do not mean to criticise you, but it is something I find frustrating.

Bad Americans! Let me count the ways. Oh, wait a minute. Everyone else is already doing that for us, wasn't one of you guys named Mung? Jeff is spot on that his point in the advertisement in question is it tries to make America appear as selling people into slavery is what we're all about. Why not a poster about the cure for Polio? Here's a link for everybody http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polio_vaccine
America helping the world? Didn't hear about that one did you Mung? I can only say that advertisement is not a right place to go to learn the heart of America people Mung; or (really bad Korean pun alert!) My word to you all-Don't Go Mung! There is not where you want to be.

Ena,

I know how to use naver. I have lived in Korea for almost 20 years. I speak, read, and write Korean fluently.

My brother, Adam is good at Korean too.

We know what we should have done. That is not the point. The point is that the example of advertising on the site may be very offensive to some people. It is strange, out of place, unnecessary, and makes Korea look very bad and racist.

Hello

At first, I hope this answer is useful for you and Adam.

I think you don’t know how to use the website “Naver”, When you search Korean word to Chinese character, You should have checked this one “통합검색” and dictionary(사전) and Chinese charcter(한자) and you put the word what you want to get in the input key.

However I think it is difficult someone who doesn’t know Korean word.
But If you try hard, you get used to it..

p.s I’m not good at English, I don’t know you understand it or not.
But you know your website is good for studying English. Sometimes you misunderstand about Korea, of course me too, I am not familiar about another culture, so I am interested a lot of thing.

See ya..

Incidentally it's 廣告.

I think a lot of us who have been here for awhile have heard the "American Slavery was evil but Korean slavery was humane" argument at least once or twice.( I mean, come on, Americans used posters!)

I was doing some searching and found this from fellow Utahn Mark Peterson:

http://kennedy.byu.edu/papers/Peterson.pdf#search=%22Korea%20Slavery%22

Certainly not a perfect paper, but an easy, good introduction to some facets of Korean slavery.

Hum... one of the advantages of being from 20th century ocean-crossing impoverished Irish stock is never having hear "That guy's family used to own slaves". However, has anyone ever met a Korean that doesn't come from a royal lineage? Tsk.
