Littlebrownasian:

They may not be the type you would think of seriously, but that’s because people don’t try to understand them better, or they get so easily tuned in to the stereotypes that the local media feeds on them.

That's exactly right. And it's the people that don't take the Angels or other motorcyle clubs seriously that end up getting hurt. Respect them, leave them alone, and be nice to them. The same basic way you would treat any other person. As Sonny Barger, on of the original Hells Angels says:

"I treat everybody the way I want to be treated until they treat me different. And if they treat me different, I treat them accordingly. People can say I'm a bad guy or a good guy, but I am to them what they are to me first."

And,

"We're polite to people, believe it or not, and a lot of people are not. People are really rude to other people. And that's why I think some people fear us because, when we run into of them rude motherf*****s, we f*** 'em up. And they don't know why they got f****d up. They really don't. But a guy will come in and step on your toes, spill beer on you and push you out of the way and tell you to get the f*** out of his way. You knock him out and when he wakes up, he calls the cops.

I don't know what problems people have with the Hells Angels. They're no more different than the Marines. They have an association to which they have a similar belief, a certain lifestyle, a common goal. They may not be the type you would think of seriously, but that's because people don't try to understand them better, or they get so easily tuned in to the stereotypes that the local media feeds on them. What people don't know, they are afraid of.

Typical.

Kimchi Pig,

Exactly right. That is the basic "Code of the Road." You ALWAYS help a motorcyclist in need.

THAT is the what it's all about. Respect others and treat them nicely, and they will respect you and treat you nicely.

Now, if you haven't already done so, it's your obligation to help a biker in need.

Say what you want about Angels, on a trip to SF in 1990 on my good olde BMW R100/7 I had a break down in the Napa Valley. No biggie, the Airhead was about as complicated as a hammer. I was on the side the road smoking a Marlboro when a Hog thunder roared in the distance. My girfriend cringed, I watched. Five Angels stopped and enquired the problem. I replied "I'm not sure." Tools came out, tank came off and soon a diagnosis of bad gas was made. On of the boys came back with an old F150 and on the Beemer went and back we all travelled to the club house. They cleaned the gunk out of the carbs, synched them and put in new plugs.

They then invited us to their evening BBQ, we drank tons of beer and sang songs at the camp fire. After bacon, eggs and and a gallon of coffee, we were sent on our way.

I have no doubt they were all criminals in some way of other but they were great us and certainly less criminal than Bush and his cabal.

jeff,

i realize "country boy" is a troll, but the idiocy of his comments was put into stark relief by what happened in southern ontario this weekend:

http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2006/04/10/1528609-cp.html

for those too lazy to follow the link: eight dead bikers (bandidios, not hells angels), trussed like chickens, shot in the head and stuffed in their cars. yup, they're all a bunch of anti-social pot-smoking goofs.

country boy, y.a.a.f.m.

Heh heh, I realize [as I'm sure Jeff does as well] that most of these posts are all coming from a single source, merely posing as multiple personalities [Hi Silly Sally!]

But damn, they're funny. The random killing part of the story is terribly tragic, but these comments got me going.

Something about this thread [probably long forgotten memories of movies like "Smokie & The Bandit", "Tank" or worse, "PeeWee Herman"] just has me rolling on the floor busting a gut right now.

I really needed a laugh today too.

Thanks, guys.

FWIW, I don't own a motorcycle. Not interested.

Country Boy,

Yawn...

when you trash (critique) the Koreans I could ask you the same question … I quote you and pose your question back to you: “One does not seek to prove something to someone or put someone down that one does not think is superior to one. Why do you have to prove yourself to someone you consider inferior to yourself?

Yawn... For the sake of my own personal boredom, I will say, "nope." I have nothing to prove to Koreans.

Korean culture, my friend, is analogous to a motorcycle tribe or even mafia. They are a thug culture in their own right.

Nope.

Welcome back Country Boy / Dr. Winston / Pee Wee / Silly Sally.

Are you giving me some lip?

Listen here city boy, when you trash (critique) the Koreans I could ask you the same question ... I quote you and pose your question back to you: "One does not seek to prove something to someone or put someone down that one does not think is superior to one. Why do you have to prove yourself to someone you consider inferior to yourself?"

Are you saying all your bitchin satire directed at the Koreans is an attack at a race you consider superior to you?

Are you a self-loathing reverse racist (hater of your own race) believing the Koreans are your racial superiors ... thus, you must enviously bring them down through cyber-sniping?

Korean culture, my friend, is analogous to a motorcycle tribe or even mafia. They are a thug culture in their own right.

The reality: the Hells Angels are a dysfunctional criminal society just like the Koreans. There should be no noble myth attached to these thugs.
