A news story about a soldier who was trained and infiltrated NK in the 50s is here. http://english.chosun.com/w21data/html/news/200408/200408290006.html

He has written a book as well, I plan to read it, should be fascinating.

While the urge to comment on DiaKorea's (substance enhanced?)rambling about a simple movie review, I restrain and stick to the plan...that is to, while admitting that Simido was a good movie- and by standards here an excellent leap in quality- even the author of the book complained about the authenticity of the movie. Very little of what we saw in the theater was true. Those guys were petty thieves picked off the street, not hardened killers from the depths of society. Ok, they exagerated...forgivable. But the biggest disservice was that the movie killed off all the prisoners/warriors. One is alive and well in the US, is fighting the Korean gov for recognition, and was hoping to get a cut of the profits from the sequel that now can't happen!

born identity (a movie about a cia killer and lots of death) slimido ( a movie about Qorean spies killing and getting killed) and hidalgo ( a gay mans emotional journey on horseback)

jeff, often you talk about death, but now i am noticing you are touching on more gay-centric themes. Your blog is a rainbow of ideas.

In a way, you are a microcosm of Qorea. In qorea gay and strate men feel unburdened to hold hands in public. (although americans are trying to change that) but chilren still play games. somtimes boys play with other boys buttholes. they call it \"dong chim\". this behavour is frowned apun in the usa but it flourishes in Gay freindly Qorea. Jeff thank you for your tollerance.

Not that it matters all that much, but "based on a true story" is accurate only in that Hopkins claimed to have actually done all the things in his stories. Sadly, there is little to no evidence to support his claims. See <a href="http://www.thelongridersguild.com/hopkins.htm" rel="nofollow">here</a> for all the sordid details.

That doesn't mean it wasn't a good movie though!

My side of the canyon isn't too bad. I think we could foster a stronger cultural exchange that mutually benefits both of our cultures if driving through Sardine more than 4 times a year didn't decrease your life expectancy by half...
