Tuesday’s North Korea News:

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jeff in Korea at 1:39 am on Tuesday, May 18, 2004

I have just wasted two hours of my life.

A reader, Plunge pointed me to some stories linked from the NK Zone site and suggested that I comment on them. I followed the links and read several of the articles.

I then began to fisk a 13 page article. Then, I stopped.

I realilzed that I had nothing to say that would be of any use. I realized that nothing I was going to say would make the slightest bit of difference. You cannot talk to, explain things to, or rationally discuss issues with people like these. They hate america and everything the country stands for.

Click here and follow the various links to several of the articles on how wonderful North Korea is and how everything is the USA’s fault.

Simply amazing.

So, you’re not joining the National Lawyers Guild?

I wish you had finished your fisking, it would have been interesting.

I must say, I do love NK Zone. Rebecca does a wonderful job of posting things from every side, allowing us to see just what sort of idiots are out there.

It’s a common human fault to over-idealize self while de-valuing others.

North and South Korea, however, have constructed a racial-religion out of this human conceit.

When a culture lives by such a marxist mythology — it becomes immoral.

One can safely refer to both Koreas are innately immoral nations.

there’s obviously some kind of nonsense in korea
i mean “victim mentality(?)”
like i’m the victim…i hope that we overcome it soon.
what i see these days in korean politic
the people who had suffered from past tough history now have many power but they seem to be negative and violent as much as past military government or..
they’s korean saying that the daughter in law who got stress from her mother in law will be usually tough for her daughter in law.

the people who had past, hard experince also repeat it to other when they have power.

among korean generations, 50’s have war and extreme poor memory and 40’s-dictative period and 30′-military government
finally 20′ are pretty much positive and this was found by joongangilbo’s poll
20′ were pretty much positive for capitalism, relationship with other nation including US…

Nothing personal Jeff, do you ever consiter yourself “people like these”? You love Korea right. You speak Korean and live and breath Korean. You got lots of nice things to say about Korea. Sure.. sure… you bitch about little things like traffic or whatnot. In fact you seem very even handed in your thoughts and very measured. Key word being measured. Because with all your truth and reason, you have to mix excuses. So deep down arnt you an appologist? I am not trying to insult you.

Whats wrong with calling a spade a spade? When I see a guy beating a woman in Korea, i dont try and find some similar situation with violence back home and then claim its OK in korea because people get beat up in other countries too. -Dont take this comment literally. I am not claiming you think woman-beating is ok. (Btw, when I see a good woman getting tossed about, i usually find a cold one fast before the action is over, and enjoy the show.)

The truth is Jeff, I think you are an appologist. to make a poor metaphore (That other tool (the NK lover)is in Dantes inner circles of hell whereas you are on the outer cirle) In relation to your appologist-ness. But I still like reading your blog.

“i dont try and find some similar situation with violence back home and then claim its OK in korea because people get beat up in other countries too”

i don’t think Jeff is writing of it because he’s in korean
wherever he’s he probably talks of that kind of thing same.

and also any problem must be actively discussed by citizen by internet or other media then these days, korean people discuss a lot more than before so finally their citizen attitude has been grown in my opinion.

usually i don’t have much to criticize about your blog. but where did you learn such lame ass reasoning to assume that those who are critical of american foreign policy somehow “hate” america and everything it “stands for”? you are by no means alone in this as there is a tendancy for certain members of the american right to equate dissent with disloyalty and, at the extreme, treason. generally i just pass this off as partisan posturing, but not this time. i read that article you linked and there is plenty in it to skewer that guy with but to say he “hates” america is simplistic at best. haven’t you ever considered that ssome criticisms maywell be justified even when they come from people whose opinions are diametrically opposed to yours?

Angus,

Yes. Many criticisms may well be justified, but in this case, it is clear the the lawyer has a strong anti-us sentiment. He is a US hater. He is ignorant and completely uninformed. He went to North Korea with an agenda. He says he went with “an open mind.” But within hours of his arrival, he and his group are singing “we shall overcome.” He swallows wholeheartedly the propaganda and lies of the the North Korean government. He actually believes that he was shown the real north Korea. He actually believes that the US “unilaterally” divided Korea and then orchestrated an invasion of North Korea and made it look like the North invaded the South. Throughout his article he constantly refers to how murderous, evil and lawless the US is. He constantly refers to how all of the suffering in North Korea, and in other places in the world is caused by US economic and political party. He wants the US to be more like the paradise of North Korea.

If you read my site, you will see that I am critical of the US when I think it is deserved.

The guy that wrote the story is not a traitor, disloyal, or anything like that. However, he is a misinformed, anti-US, North Korean apologist.

Again,

I must agree again with DiaKorea. There is something mealy-mouthed about our boy Jeffry.

Since he is a Mormon he musn’t critique God’s creatures too harshly lest he violate Mormonism’s “new image” of being tolerant and celebrators of diversity.

These days Mormonism’s new savior looks more like Bill Clinton wearing sunglasses and playing hip riffs on a saxophone. Our boy Jeffrey is a politically correct metro-sexual who wears funny boots.

If I were either politicaly correct or a metro-sexual, I would have not alternative but to quit this mortal coil…but even to be accused of being not one, but both, is almost too much to bear.

SS,

Please dont agree with me. It makes me feel uncomfortable and it make me feel sticky. Being sticky reminds me of when my uncle used to baby-sit me.

Also SS what is wrong with being a metro-sexual. Everyone who konws anything knows that Metrosex is the wave of the future and if the Mormons are the first to catch this wave then god bless them.

Lastly, all who read your post should feel offended on your comments about Mr Jeffs “funny boots”. clearly this is a subtle attack on Mr Jeff as a latent homosexual.

SS, logically, as we all know there cant be jews as Mormans, its just as logically there cant be homosexuals as mormans. Thus the brilliance and beauty of Mormanism. Replace all the homosexuals with Metrosexuals.

This kind of thinking is why Mormanism is the wave of the future Sally. You better get on board.

“He swallows wholeheartedly the propaganda and lies”

what makes you think that you hear the truth from our government, media, or textbooks?? Honestly I believe one side just as much as the other in this case, or in most cases… Mr. Sirotkin comes off as anti-american, but it is kind of refreshing after all the propaganda and lies they serve over here in the states.
